        Designed for the low-end, mid-range, and USB softphone segments of the digital-cordless market, this single-chip family combines state-of-the-art RF functions with a powerful ARM9 baseband and provides fast, fl exible design-in for all DECT and WDCT standards used worldwide.

        NXP leads the market for digital-cordless ICs and worked closely with major phone manufacturers to define features and functions of the PNX80xx series. The result is unmatched performance with more features and easier design-in, at a lower overall cost.

        Each device is built around a powerful ARM968E-S processor with an optimized Harvard architecture that can accommodate all the latest features, including CAT-iq, USB softphone, wideband audio, wideband synthesis, wideband full-duplex handsfree, and wideband polyphony. The architecture also offers embedded RAM and ROM memories, a four-channel hardware ADPCM, interface circuits, audio codecs with amplifier, auxiliary A/D and D/A conversion, an embedded transceiver with power amplifier, and power management functions.

        A state-of-the-art radio transceiver extends the radio range and delivers improved audio quality. It offers output power control (-17 to 27 dBm), increased sensitivity (-99 dBm DECT and -102 dBm WDCT 2.4), and reduced component count. A fast- switching PLL enables zero blind slots radio.

        Multiple on-chip interfaces provide simple access to a range of peripherals. There are 29 multiplexed GPIO with wake-up features, one I2C-bus and two high-speed SPI interfaces, a pulse width modulator (PWM), a keyboard scanner, a buzzer interface, a UART, a USB interface with twelve endpoints and control, and a digital-audio interface that combines I2S, IOM, and PCM.

        All the ICs use the same API, so software is easy to port and integrate. The devices within each series are also based on the same development platform and are pin-to-pin compatible. This greatly simplifies the design process and lets you use a single software stack to create a range of products with a high degree of differentiation.

        To address different standards, every device has an integrated, fully programmable Burst Mode Processor (BMP) proven for DECT, WDCT, DECT 6.0, and Bluetooth. Third-party software, widely available for the ARM9 architecture, is easy to port onto the design.

        Large on-chip RAM and ROM memories increase the options for creativity and simplify logistics, with fewer ROM versions that combine product range and country version.

        The integrated 4-kB patch RAM mechanism reduces time-to-market and maximizes production flexibility, by making it easy to fix bugs and support product evolutions. The family includes Flash versions, versions with a cost-optimized supply concept, USB, up to two integrated codecs, and various ROM and RAM footprints.
